One to one, no. On a social platform yes 😔 It is easy to hate an “anonymous” person! Truth is though we are all alike, in that we want to live well, have our families and friends healthy and safe, eat good food, etc. The ultimate answer to the yes comes down to self interest versus true empathy for the fact that even the “enemy” is scared shitless and while they choose to go to the ugly we work mindful to overcome that part of ourselves and serve others for their benefit ❤️

This article is food for thought. I can’t remember which country it was, but protesters started speaking to/with the police surrounding them. The result was, when they were ordered to start shooting protesters, the police refused.

There’s a scene in To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus is sitting in front of the jail, protecting Tom Robinson, when a group of angry white men approaches them, intent on killing Robinson. Scout, her brother, and friend show up. Scout engages one of the men. “Hey, Mr. Cunningham.” He ignores her. “I said, hey, Mr. Cunningham. I go to school with your boy Walter.” She manages to humanize and connect herself with him through his son. He loses his anger, and tells his guys to go home.

You live in your own private Idaho.

There's racism and hate galore, usually proudly proclaimed from the right.

You need to stop thinking in terms of cotton candy and dancing unicorns. I've been promised a few rapes and "ass fucks" by Trump supporters because I write negative things (read: quote him verbatim) about that moron.

You haven't a clue what it's like to be female AND a Trump critic. It's not pleasant.

Hate is a strong word - but I won’t knowingly have MAGAts in my house. Fascist bigots are thoroughly despicable, and while I understand many MAGAts have been bamboozled by a con man, if their values are such that they signed on to the poison that spills from his mouth - I want nothing to do with them - anywhere…

My anger filter protects me from going off on people. Besides social trends do not exist in a vacuum. Like the pendulum of a clock it sits within an atmosphere and the pull of gravity when it swings to the right wall of the cabinet forces will pull it in the opposite direction. Until then I sing out loud or in my head. Loving God loving each other making music with my friends. It reminds me of what lies ahead for humankind. No barrier will keep me from my Creator.

Great article and clear thinking for sure. I would agree that most don’t hate each other because of which side they are on. However, it’s all about principle for me. If you still support this administration whether out of your ignorance or for any other reason then I do not want to be associated with you, at all. Why, because they are okay with racism, bigotry, and the list goes on and I’m not okay with that because they were nice to me at the grocery store. 🇺🇸💙

MLK said decades ago that the wealthy and powerful used racism to keep working class Blacks and whites from uniting and effecting economic change. The only difference now is the addition of the manufactured culture wars.

Well said buddy! Make decisions and form opinions based on experience not troll comments. I visited a park in Brooklyn last weekend. Every flavor of being was represented. NOTHING but love, peace and joy was displayed or felt. Truly a beautiful experience.

Yes. Hating Nazis and heartless cruel republicans seems like a healthy response. They hate POC, women, veterans, seniors, liberals. Look at the racist deportations. That’s just one of many reasons to hate them.

Yes, warm and fuzzy does not cut it and it is not facing up to reality. Hard core MAGA will destroy everything it hates without remorse. Think of them as your neighborhood sociopaths. Or, think of a body with gangrene; a surgeon could want to spare a patient the pain of an amputation, but by doing that, kills the patient.

We are all people and I feel the media is being used to sew fear and anger. This only enriches the ultra rich who are running things. Oligarchs are buying the country and we pay the price.

I believe hate is the most destructive of emotions, and I try not to hate anyone or anything, but I’m not ready yet to get over the overwhelming anger I have towards to ignorant people who put trump, musk, and the republicans in control.

You and me both Burt. I don’t know if I ever will. I wouldn’t trust a republican to shine my shoes, and MAGAts can go to hell as far as I’m concerned.

We all bleed red. That’s one thing we all 100% have in common. We aren’t born republican or democrat or born a bigot. It’s taught. It’s things we learn from our upbringing. Babies born don’t hate. But they may grow and learn who could be the lesser of them. We learn what our two party system is like and decide which candidate to vote for when we are 18.

Another fantastic article. Thank you for an uplifting read this Saturday morning.

I agree. I've always believed that humans, regardless of vastly different ideologies and experiences, are fully capable, and indeed are innately wired by evolution to care for each other. With a few clear exceptions naturally - the aberrant ones stuck on the low branch of evolutionary development. I agree that the mainstream media and that tiny minority with a vested interest (ie who have power, a much larger share of wealth than will ever be necessary) benefit tremendously by their divide and conquer tactics. It increases the minority’s wealth, power and influence as it does for the media.

So how do we mend the torn web of connection holding humanity and all living things together: compassion and an other-centered (which would include nature/animals in all forms) mentality. We determinedly and persistently set that example for the world even when things don’t seem like they can ever be repaired, even when humanity seems bent on destroying itself.
